Photon Glassworks derives it's name from the particles that radiate energy as light. As a creative force in the community, all artists share a responsibility to harness energy through creativity and imagination. The science of vision and the physics of energy may seem a strange place to discuss art, and art may seem an even stranger place to discuss science, but the glass artist will tell you that the medium in which they work is ruled by physics.

The dance of molten glass is like no other. Anyone who has enjoyed a silent moment of awe watching a glassblowing demonstration will attest to this. We welcome you to explore the world of glassblowing, and hope that you may find a glass artist working in your area that will let you watch as they sculpt with fire.

Here at Photon Glassworks, we use a technique known as lampworking. In the days before the advent of industrial compressed gas, the lampworker used an oil lamp and a pipette to manually add air to fire. Nowadays we use increasingly sophisticated torches and regulators that expand our ability to add intricate detail to our sculptures, vessels, beads, ornaments, paperweights, and eggs.

As the  push for scientific glassware continued with the advent of borosilicate glass, so did the artist's ability to access and explore this brand new medium. Throughout human history, there have been curious minds who continually searched for meaning and substance in all forms. What you see here today is a result of those combined energies which made this possible. We would like to thank and encourage all like-minded individuals to keep searching and sharing.
